REVIEW OF VEGETABLE NANOLUBRICANTS FOR TRIBOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS

About 40 million tons of lubricants are used every year for various industry purposes and applications, where most them petroleum based oils. These oils difficult expensive to dispose of, have low biodegradability contamination risks. Recent efforts been focused on reducing the environmental impact through use vegetable since they biodegradable good lubricity. A drawback is their poor thermal stability oxidation, which causes decrease properties at higher loads. Nanoparticle (NP) additives explored improving tribological performance vegetable. This literature review seeks compare analise different NP types, concentrations oil type coefficient friction. The that shown provide best behaviour were coconut oil, sunflower palm sesame canola among others. with SiO2 CuO concentration highest improvement was between 0.01-3.0 wt.%. results this study an insight areas opportunity developing new lubricant formulations industrial applications.
